Parking is at the state Overlook at the top of Molas Pass and at the Molas Lake parking lot located one mile north of the Pass. Both lots are on the west side of the highway. Molas Pass,[1] elevation 10,912 feet (3,326 meters), is a prime mountain pass within the San Juan Mountains of western Colorado within the United States.
The pass is within the San Juan National Forest. It is traversed by the Million Dollar Highway, U.S. Highway 550 south of Silverton, which is a part of the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway.
Though it is among the higher passes in Colorado, it has just a few switchbacks at the north approach, is considerably much less intimidating than Red Mountain Pass at the identical highway. It is generally kept open in the wintry weather months.
Molas Pass could also be the last mountain pass of the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic race, where riders race the educate from Durango to Silverton.
